Staying at home: week 3

School term is done! The relief is real.

The week was a bit of a blur – ups and downs as usual, very busy, still exhausting. But tiny buds of green as we all appear to be beginning to recover from the shock of all the changes.

Staying at home: week 2

Wildflowers in our local bush track.

Hello! How are you all going out there? I trust that you are managing day to day to adjust to your variation of “the new normal”!

For us, overall, I’d say this week was a slight improvement on last week. Not a huge achievement as last week was pretty chaotic! For most of the week It seemed as though at least one member of the household was crying, tantrum-ing or silently cursing. Thankfully, there were definitely more moments of calm this week.

On Tuesday we pulled our two eldest out of school. My husbands bible college put a pause on lectures and classes while they scramble to organise online lectures for next week. And we commenced our social isolation, along with most of the country, trying to stay at home as much as possible – the five of us – in our two bedroom home.

All who fall down

April 2018

“The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down”. Psalm 145:14

Today I am weary.

Today, all I can think of is all the little children.

The ones I see week after week whose greatest achievement each day, and sometimes only achievement, is to simply get to school. Little children who got themselves up out of bed, packed their own lunch, found their own clothes to wear and possibly left the house without someone to even say goodbye to them.

No warm hugs, no kisses, no ‘love you!’ Whispered into a grateful ear.  Just a parent in bed, sleeping in or sleeping off the night before or perhaps simply too weary  of life itself to gather the wherewithal to get up and keep on keeping on.

Gazing round my garden in the warmth of an autumns evening with the weight of these children’s woes pressing heavy, my thoughts drift to seeds.
